Matthew Wald, our Director of Christian Education and Programming, is a native Ohioan whose first career was in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Technology until he received the call from God to enter the mission field. However, Matthew’s call was not to cross the ocean but to serve domestically as a US-2 (two year missionary) with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. He was sent to Birmingham, Alabama where he coordinated volunteer work groups to rehab homes in low income neighborhoods and build home using the “sweat-equity” model of Habitat.
Following his missionary service Matthew received his Bachelor degree in Religion and Philosophy with a minor in Christian Education from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. He then attended the Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO) where he earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Education with Specialization in Youth Ministry degrees.
Matthew is an ordained Elder in Full Connection in The East Ohio Conference of The UMC and has served churches in Mount Gilead, Euclid, Hinckley, Wooster, and Medina. Matthew is the father of three adult daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys reading mysteries, cooking, traveling and finding creative ways to present the Gospel to all ages.
